Free Kindle Healthy Lifestyle eBooks! Paleo, Gluten Free, Low Carb, Wellness, Fitness eBooks Nov.3/12

I love FREE Kindle eBooks from Amazon!

Over 100 Free eBooks today!!!! Lots of new titles and books with very good reviews.

The key to making any kind of lifestyle change is to have tools. It will be important to have resources to be able to transition more smoothly. Recipes were something I needed fast, and exercise and motivation followed closely behind. Free healthy lifestyle eBooks is the cheapest and easiest way to amass information and the tools to get to where you want to be. But these Free eBooks are time sensitive. They aren’t always offered for free. Check the list sooner than later so you can get as many as possible for free.

Sorry it’s been awhile since I put a list together but I’m not getting very much response to my posts. It takes hours to build these lists. If you wish to see more free healthy lifestyle ebook lists like theses please show me some support. I love to help but I’m not sure it matters. So let me know you want to see more…please.

It appears that Amazon has made a few changes to their Kindle book section, they have introduced Amazon Prime Membership. Membership will give you more free Kindle books, although it appears that they are considered borrowed and will only stay in your collection for 1 month with this paid service. I don’t intend to join, and the free eBooks on this list do not require an Amazon Prime Membership. Free should be free, not free for now for a price. But things may still be changing it seems.

Also new is Kindle Edition eBooks with Audio/Video. NOTE: Audio/Video content only available for iPads, iPhones, and iPod Touch devices. No further information is available. You can still download the written portion but unless you have an Apple device you will not be able to hear or view the extra content. It will be a much larger download as well so be aware.

I just checked I have over 900 free Kindle eBooks in my collection! It is a great way to find great recipes and healthy lifestyle information. Many of these are in my own library but I will admit I haven’t read them all. There may be some that don’t follow my  dietary restrictions but sometimes a quick ingredient swap is all they need. I look at it as great reference and they provide me with great ideas and information. Sometimes I just save the recipes I like from these free eBooks to my database for quick reference later.

Don’t have a Kindle? No problem, just set up one of Kindle’s Free Reading Apps like Kindle for PC and save them to your computer, or if you don’t have the extra storage space, there is also Kindle Cloud Reader where you can keep them online. You will have to first set up an Amazon account if you don’t already have one but it’s free and easy too.

I will be checking the post randomly over the weekend to try and keep it up to date. I usually seem to start out with 50+ free eBooks but things can change in minutes.  I guess the quicker you are, the more likely they are to still be free. Sorry if they changed the pricing, sometimes it happens so fast I can’t even believe it!

Please check before downloading to make sure the eBooks are still free, the prices can change at any time. Each picture and title are direct links to the eBook on Amazon.com.

In case you’re wondering…no I don’t make any money if you click on the books, I just want to provide you with a great resource of FREE healthy lifestyle information. If you find some you really like, take the time to leave a rating and review so that others know it’s worth owning and reading. Even better… leave a comment below!

Apple Pie Chips Recipe

Apple Pie Chips

Vegan, Paleo, SCD, GAPS, Gluten-free diet friendly.

I don’t usually share a recipe on the first time I make it but this one is just so easy and so good I just had to!

Crunchy snacks are something I crave and usually break my diet and have potato chips to cure. Now I have a sweet alternative that keeps to my diet. These spices are so good for you too!

Also think they would be great to give as a cookie exchange alternative or just a friendly gift. Sure to be a hit.

Make lots, they won’t last long!

Apple Pie Chips – Healthy New Dawn

Apple Pie Chips

By Dawn Valcourt, October 2012          http://www.healthynewdawn.com

The recipe makes enough apple seasoning mix to dip about 3-5 apples depending on their size.

Ingredients:

  • ½ tbsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Ginger powder
  • ¼ tsp ground Cloves
  • ½ tsp Nutmeg
  • ¼ cup raw Honey
  • Juice of 1 Lemon
  • ¼ cup Water
  • 3-5 Apples, variety of choice (Honeycrisp is my pick so far)

Directions:

  1. Preheat Oven to 225 F. Line 2 or 3 baking sheets with parchment paper. (Only do 3 if you have a convection oven).
  2. In a medium size bowl, mix all spices into honey. Then add lemon juice and water to the mix so that the spices don’t end up floating on top.
  3. No peeling, No coring! Using a mandolin with the thinnest slicing blade, slice one apple at a time. If you have big apples like I did, one filled all 3 pans!
  4. Put apple slices into the bowl of liquid and spices carefully, making sure each slice gets coated with the mixture.
  5. Lay the slices on the parchment paper lined baking sheet. Depending on the size of the apples you should get 12-16 on each sheet.
  6. Repeat with more apple if necessary until your baking sheets are full.
  7. Bake for 1 ½ hours. Shift the pans at about the 45 minute point, so that they are in different places in the oven then previously.
  8.  Keep a close eye after  this point, exact timing will depend on the oven. When some of the slices start browning around the core they are definitely done.
  9. Remove from oven. They will still be soft when they come out but will get crispy quite quickly.

Hint: Once my pans were in the oven baking, I sliced the next apple for the next batch and put it in the honey and spice solution ( kind of marinating them), storing them in the fridge, until the first ones finished cooking.

I was able to get 9 trays out of one batch of seasoning mix, or roughly 120 chips. It was time consuming but the oven timer did all the work and it was worth it because they won’t last long.

I combined a few different recipes to come up with this one. One of the original recipes said to turn the slices over after 45 minutes, but I found they stayed flatter and packed better, with less breakage, if I just left them stuck to the paper until they were done.

Update Nov 2/2012: I have tested this mix on Honeycrisp, Ambrosia and Gala Apples as well as Anjou Pears so far. The best by far were the Honeycrisp that made the crispiest and largest chips. The pears on the other hand were more like candies than chips.

I love FREE Kindle eBooks from Amazon!

Great list of Free eBooks today! Lots of new titles and books with very good reviews.

Sorry it’s been a while since I was able to publish my healthy lifestyle free Kindle eBook list, I have been traveling northern British Columbia for the past month. I must say it was great to disconnect from all electronic devices during the trip. Visiting Haida Guaii ( formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands) has been on my bucket list for years and was well worth the trip, what a beautiful place full of amazing history. I hope to share a few pictures in the future.

It appears that Amazon has made a few changes in my absence, they have introduced Amazon Prime Membership. Sorry I couldn’t publish a list last week, I was traveling in the Rocky Mountains and couldn’t get a stable enough connection. Things may also be a bit off during the next few weeks since we are on vacation and travelling again. I will try, but again it is dependent on internet signal quality.

I just checked I have over 700! It is a great way to find great recipes and healthly lifestyle information. Many of these are in my own library but I will admit I haven’t read them all. Simultaneously Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free and Egg-Free Recipes -The Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook

The Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook by Alissa Segersten and Tom Malterre, MS, CN

This book I think is a MUST to add to your cookbook library especially if you have to go without any or all of these three ingredients. While many books will look at removing one of them, few are actually Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free and Egg-Free simultaneously. Many medical diets will ask you to eliminate these since they tend to be some the most reactive foods in our diets, often causing food allergies or intolerances and in turn inflammation.

Most of us who have been told to implement these types of diets find it really hard to cope at first. That’s because we are never given enough tools to deal with the shock of What am I going to eat? I know, I have been there!  This book will arm you the tools to be able to eliminate these foods painlessly and forever if necessary.

The “Whole Life Nutrition” part of the book is about whole foods and how a whole foods diet is much more beneficial than the diets we are used to. As a population, almost all of us are carb addicted, dependent on processed foods of one kind or another and probably not feeling as good as we think we should.

“Whole foods contain all of the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytochemicals we need to prevent and reverse disease and aging.”

They list and discuss seven good reasons to eat whole foods: “To Promote Intestinal Function, To Decrease Cellular Damage, To Decrease Systemic Inflammation, To Support Optimal Organ Function, To Assist with Hormonal Balance, To Regulate the Immune System and To Maintain a Healthy Weight”.

From my recent health experience, I was told that I had to work on all of these aspects of my health. Also that I wouldn’t recover if I didn’t, so this made perfect sense to me, and this book was a great tool in my re-education about eating and cooking. I just got lucky and the book found me one day when I was waiting for an appointment. Don’t let this book find you, seek to find it. They make it easy, no matter what type of cook you are, to be able to eliminate these foods from your diet. If your the type that likes to start with a sample menu, you’ll find it here. You will also be given lists of good foods used to create the recipes in the book, so you can stock your pantry and create anything spontaneously.

I like how the recipes are divided. There are sections for Breakfast, Gluten and Egg Free Breads and Muffins, Soups, Salads and Vegetables, Whole Grains (gluten free), Vegetarian Main dishes, Fish, Poultry and Meat, Dressings, Dips & Sauces ( the most valuable section in my opinion), Nutritious Desserts, Snacks and even Drinks. The recipes are good and my book is really full of flags marking the ones that look interesting.

Another thing I liked about the books were some of the appendixes. Some of my favorites include: Food Allergy Substitution Charts, Hidden Sources of Gluten, 28-day Elimination & Detoxification Diet, and also How to Introduce Solid Foods to Infants.

Like I said, don’t be like me and wait for this book to find you. There are a couple different ways to acquire it that I have found. The Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook can be found on Amazon or through their own website. I also recommend visiting http://wholelifenutrition.net where there is even more information about doing an elimination diet and also on their new upcoming book Nourishing Meals that will contain 300 more Gluten Free, Dairy-Free and now Soy-Free recipes. It will also including a guide to raising healthy children and is due to release in August.  If you pre-order direct you’ll get a FREE eBook sampler!
